Reflections on 2025 - Advancing Sustainability Across the Healthcare Supply Chain

As 2025 comes to a close, we are reflecting on our mission at Nocomed, to "Advance Sustainability Across the Healthcare Supply Chain" and looking ahead to what's next.

Key Sustainability Healthcare Stats

Turning data into insights relies on robust data collection. From 2025 three healthcare insights, grounded in healthcare data collection, stood out. We believe these will be key information points that the industry will turn to again and again into 2026 and beyond.

· Global healthcare CO₂ emissions account for at least 4.4% of total CO₂ emissions, exceeding emissions from the aviation sector (1)

· 4.2 million premature deaths occur annually each year due to ambient (outdoor) air pollution (2)

· Over 70% of healthcare carbon emissions come from purchased goods and services (Scope 3.1) (2)

Partnership and International Sustainability Go Hand-in-Hand

Improving health outcomes means protecting patients, people, and the planet.  Across Europe, a key insight was collaboration: partnership and sustainability must go hand-in-hand. This key theme was prevalent across the geographies from the Danish  7^th Nordics Conference on Sustainable Healthcare (Malmö), to ABHI Sustainability Conference (London), to HealthTech Ireland Symposium (Dublin). All reinforced this key insight. Green procurement was high on the agenda for healthcare procurement professionals, reflecting the sector's growing focus on responsible sourcing. Similarly, strong collaboration between Healthcare organisations and HealthTech suppliers can unlock opportunities for innovation, sustainability, and operational efficiency.

Engagement with international healthcare systems confirmed a rising trend towards carbon reduction requirements. Looking ahead, we anticipate that the extension of NHS Net Zero Supplier Requirements in 2027 to all suppliers will drive more HealthTech and Pharma distributors and manufacturers to pursue energy and supply chain efficiencies.

Partnerships for Impact

Back at Nocomed, and in keeping with the healthcare industry focus, 2025 saw us deepen sectoral collaboration through strategic partnerships with HealthTech Enterprise, UK and Avem Market Solutions. We are thrilled to work with these incredible teams. We are also grateful for the ongoing support from Enterprise Ireland, Dogpatch Labs, our investors and advisors, whose unwavering encouragement enable us to bring our innovative, sector-aware software platform to a wider audience. Participating in Enterprise Ireland's International Markets Week, Start-Up Day, and spending time with Enterprise Ireland in New York were also highlights of the year.

Life Science Sustainability Accolades

Being recognized by the industry was also a proud moment: Nocomed was shortlisted for the Life Sciences Industry Sustainability Award 2025 which celebrate the most innovative individuals and companies driving excellence, and Sustainable BioPharmaChem Company of the Year 2025 which recognises outstanding achievements and potential within the sector in Ireland. We were honoured to be in such healthy company!

Looking Ahead Towards Carbon Reduction

Looking Ahead: With Nocomed delivering value to life science and healthcare customers like Kora Healthcare who, in keeping with the NHS supplier journey towards Net Zero, published their first NHS-compliant carbon reduction plan  using our software platform. We’re excited to welcome several new customers in 2026 - many of whom are already taking meaningful steps to reduce their carbon emissions. This is great news for the sector and for the planet.
